Low Brass Teacher — SafeVisitor Verified Starting in 2017 I began teaching with HSE Schools. A couple of years later I also started working with Brownsburg, and I am still holding these positions currently. I am able to come in and work with students during class time at these locations.

About Me

"If it sounds good, it is good." That legendary philosophy by master brass pedagogue Arnold Jacobs is the exact foundation of my teaching. Too many students get trapped in their own heads worrying about the hyper-mechanics of their face muscles. In my studio, we shift the focus to producing a beautiful, resonant, and natural sound. I utilize targeted mouthpiece and rim buzzing in every lesson as a powerful tool to reinforce great air support. By training the brain to focus on a rich, vibrant sound-picture first, the body naturally relaxes. This "air-first" approach helps students break through technical blocks, protects their muscles from fatigue, and makes playing Trombone, Euphonium (sometimes mistaken for the Baritone), or Tuba feel completely effortless!

How I Teach

Every student is unique, which is why I don't believe in a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. I work closely with each player to discover the natural embouchure and airflow balance that fits their unique anatomy—ensuring they sound their absolute best without physical strain. If a student has a favorite song or a specific goal but there isn't any sheet music published for it, I will personally arrange custom music just for them! Above all, I keep my lessons good-natured, engaging, and genuinely fun. The supportive relationship we build in the studio is the real priority. My ultimate goal isn't just "learning to play well"—it is helping your child build lifelong confidence, problem-solving skills, and a true excitement for making music!

Teaching Philosophy and Benefits of Studying with Mr. Wilhelm

Welcome to the Wilhelm Low Brass Lesson Studio! I teach all low brass instruments, from trombone and euphonium down to the tuba. My goal is to build happy, confident musicians who can think for themselves. I don't want to be a permanent crutch for my students—I want to give them the skills and confidence to practice successfully entirely on their own! 🚀 SOUNDING GREAT SHOULD FEEL EFFORTLESS Forget tight muscles and forced, squeezed notes. I teach a unique "air-first" method that makes playing feel completely natural. We keep the lips relaxed in the center and let a gentle stream of air do most of the heavy lifting. This gives students a huge, warm, professional sound without making them strain. It builds incredible endurance, protects their muscles, and makes practicing a blast! 🎓 A PROVEN TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS Whether your child is a 6th-grade beginner trying to ace their very first band class, or an advanced high school senior pushing for elite placements, my studio gets massive results. * Just last year, one of my advanced students auditioned for and was accepted into almost every single collegiate music school they applied to! * My students routinely beat the odds to earn coveted chairs in highly selective All-State bands. 🛠️ THE STUDIO BONUS: SKIP THE 2-WEEK REPAIR LINES! When you join my studio, you get an exclusive perk that no other music program in town offers. I am a master instrument repair technician with my own private workshop. * If your student's horn gets a stuck slide or a mechanical issue, don't wait 1 to 2 weeks in a massive retail shop queue. * Studio families get priority 3-to-5-day express turnarounds on standard student repairs. * You get exclusive, discounted repair rates to keep your child’s horn in flawless playing condition for less money and zero stress. I welcome all low brass students from 6th-grade beginners up to advanced high schoolers and adults. Let’s make some great music!
