Every teacher undergoes comprehensive background verification through Checkr, the industry-leading provider trusted by Uber, Lyft, and Instacart. Our partnership with Checkr ensures thorough, multi-state screening before any teacher can join Thoven.
Video Interview
Each teacher completes a live video interview with our team. We assess teaching philosophy, communication skills, and commitment to student safety before approval.
Ongoing Quality Monitoring
We continuously monitor teacher performance through parent feedback, lesson quality reviews, and platform behavior to maintain the highest standards.
Protecting Your Child's Privacy
We follow strict federal privacy laws designed to protect children under 13 online. Under COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), we're required to get your permission before collecting information about your child, limit what we collect to essentials, and give you full control over your child's account and data.
What We Collect:
- Student first name and age (for personalized lesson planning)
- Parent contact information (for scheduling and communication)
- Lesson progress and assignments (to track learning outcomes)
What We Never Collect:
- Student photos, videos, or voice recordings
- Social security numbers or government IDs
- Location tracking or device identifiers

Your Control:
Parents have complete control over student accounts. You can view, edit, or request deletion of your child's information at any time. Students under 13 cannot create accounts independently — all access requires verified parental consent.

No Direct Student Contact
Students cannot initiate messages, share contact information, or communicate outside of scheduled lessons. Parents decide when and how their family interacts with teachers.
