My goal as a teacher is to create a nurturing and inspiring environment where students feel empowered to grow as musicians. I tailor lessons to each student’s goals, experience level, and learning style, focusing on healthy technique, beautiful tone, musical expression, and effective practice habits. With a Master’s degree in Viola Performance from UNLV and over a decade of teaching experience, I help students build confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of music.
Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to their goals, experience level, and learning style. I use a variety of approaches, including demonstrations, listening, technical explanations, and hands-on exercises to help students develop new skills. Whether preparing for auditions, improving technique, or learning for enjoyment, I create engaging lessons that build confidence, strong practice habits, and consistent progress.
My teaching approach is centered around making each lesson personal, encouraging, and purposeful. Every student learns differently, so I tailor lessons to their individual goals, experience level, and learning style. Whether a student is preparing for an audition, working toward a performance, developing technique, or simply learning the viola for enjoyment, I create a plan that helps them make meaningful progress while building confidence. As a violist and educator with more than 12 years of teaching experience, I bring both professional performance experience and a strong passion for teaching into every lesson. I hold a Master’s degree in Viola Performance from UNLV and have had the opportunity to study with and learn from accomplished violists including Kate Hamilton, Matthew Hunter of the Berlin Philharmonic, Mick Wetzel of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and CJ Chang, Principal Viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra. My experience performing in orchestras, chamber ensembles, festivals, and other professional settings allows me to connect technical instruction with the realities of performing music at a high level. What makes my lessons special is the emphasis I place on understanding why we do something, not simply how to do it. I work with students on fundamentals such as sound production, bow technique, intonation, shifting, rhythm, musicality, and efficient practice habits, while also helping them develop their own musical voice. I use demonstrations, listening, repetition, and clear explanations so students can approach challenging concepts in the way that works best for them. Above all, I want students to enjoy making music and feel supported in their growth. My goal is not only to help students become stronger violists, but to help them become confident, independent musicians who are excited to continue learning and pursuing their musical goals.
