About Me
Hello! My name is Tom. I've been playing the trumpet since I was nine years old and have been a professional musician in NYC for five plus years now. I have a real passion for helping others and passing along all the knowledge I have. My main forte is jazz and improvisation but I also have experience with concert bands, orchestras, rock bands and more. The trumpet can be a real beast and difficult to have fun playing so I aim to demystify the instrument and get you comfortable on the horn. I also have a concentration in jazz studies and am able to teach music/jazz theory in a way that is applicable to playing and not just dead information.
How I Teach
I always like to lean into the interests of the student. I had to practice a lot of music I didn't like which almost made me quit the horn so I want to avoid that for my students! At the end of the day as long as playing music is fun that is the most important thing. I try to structure my lessons and material to facilitate fun and the ultimate interests of the student.
