About Me

Moni D. is a classically trained pianist who began her studies at Brooklyn Music School and later attended Cornell University, where she majored in Ethnomusicology and performed with the Cornell Gamelan Ensemble. Her passion for sound design and music production developed under the mentorship of David Borden, a protégé of Robert Moog, and expanded through her work with music producer Stuart Matthewman. She went on to earn certification in audio engineering from the Institute of Audio Research. As a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, she has performed at iconic New York City venues including CBGB’s, The Knitting Factory, and Joe’s Pub. Moni D. is the owner of Radian Studios, in Brooklyn, NY where she teaches piano, guitar and music production. She also provides audio engineering and music production services. Her work includes film and commercial projects, from assisting on Cautionary Tale to composing for Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It. She also served as Music Director for Moving Mountains, Inc., the youth theatre program founded by actor Jamie Hector, where she composed and conducted original scores for productions across New York City. With over a decade of teaching experience, Moni D. brings a creative, student-focused approach, blending strong musical fundamentals with modern production and performance techniques.

How I Teach

My Teaching Philosophy Comprehensive Music Education: I teach piano, guitar, voice, music theory, songwriting, and music production, providing students with a well-rounded musical foundation in each discipline. Whether a student is learning their first notes or developing advanced skills, I tailor lessons to support their individual goals. Engaging and Supportive Instruction: I strive to create a positive, encouraging learning environment where music feels fun, accessible, and rewarding. My patient teaching style helps students build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Student-Centered Learning: Every lesson is personalized to meet each student's learning style, interests, and pace. I incorporate singing, ear training, music literacy, and sequential skill development to build strong musicianship while keeping lessons engaging and enjoyable. World Music Perspective: Drawing on my background in Ethnomusicology, I incorporate principles of World Music Pedagogy, exposing students to diverse musical traditions and cultures. This approach fosters curiosity, cultural awareness, and a broader understanding of music as a universal language.

Helping Every Student Find Their Musical Voice

Music has a way of finding people through a rhythm, a melody, a song that just hits differently. Every musician starts with that one moment where it all clicks. I’m here to make sure that moment turns into something real, something special for my students. My Experience and Methods I’m a professional teaching artist based in Brooklyn, NY. I teach piano, guitar, vocals, songwriting, and music production. What I bring to every lesson goes beyond the notes and technique. I like to focus on creativity, performance, and music culture to give students a real-world musical experience. I meet each student where they are and build on what inspires them. Whether they want to make beats, play their favorite songs, write music, or understand how music works, I help them grow through their own interests. What Online Lessons Look Like Our online sessions are live, interactive, and designed to keep kids engaged; they’re not just watching a screen. I understand that trusting someone with your child's musical journey is a big decision, and it's one I never take lightly. You'll know what we’re working on, and I’m always available if you have questions. Let’s Chat! So I’d love to meet your rising musician! Reach out to me for a free 15-minute intro call, where we can chat about their musical interests, goals, and maybe even hear them play or share something they've created. Hope to hear from you soon!
