How I Teach

As one must respect the individuality of each unique human body and human perspective, that ideology and philosophy must be carried over to the teaching studio as well. Fostering a comfortable, flexible, and joyous environment for students of all ages to feel freedom to express themselves and experiment is the top priority while working as the teacher of your student. The recognition that every student has different needs and desires, and working with the student while not controlling their wants, is the paramount goal. I recognize the musician and performer not as that, but as a human being first. Whatever the whims and woes of the day are, we can work with that, and more importantly, we can work through that! I view teaching not as a top down directive, but a collaborative and guiding effort towards the student’s desires, never imposing an outside directive over that of pure artistic curiosity and expression. Recognizing the body as a whole instrument, and utilizing all facets and parts of it as extensions of others, we can create flowing, beautiful art that the body is already predisposed and ready to make!
