About Me

Dr. Bastos earned her Doctor of Music in Violin Performance from Florida State University in Spring of 2017. During her studies, she served as a Teaching Assistant to Dr. Benjamin Sung, when she maintained an active and multifaceted role teaching violin, coaching chamber ensembles, performing in graduate chamber settings, and in the University Symphony Orchestra. She also holds an Artist Diploma in violin from Texas Christian University, where she studied under Elisabeth Adkins, a former student of Oscar Schumsky. An accomplished performer, Dr. Bastos has participated in distinguished summer programs such as the Brevard Music Center and the Miami Summer Music Festival. She has also served as a violin instructor at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, further demonstrating her commitment to arts education. Her orchestral experience spans from both Brazil and the United States, with performances including the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Panama City POPS Orchestra, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra. She served as concertmaster for the Oklahoma Chamber Symphony for three seasons, and has served as concertmaster for the Enid Symphony since 2025. In addition to her performance career, Dr. Bastos is a dedicated educator. She teaches violin through El Sistema Oklahoma and in her private studio. She is also an adjunct Professor of Music at Oklahoma City Community College, and has served as an adjunct professor at Langston University. Dr. Bastos is deeply committed to equipping her students with a strong technical foundation, empowering them to cultivate their own artistic voice and expressive individuality in performance.

How I Teach

As a violin teacher, I encourage independence, critical thinking, and confidence! Having rebuilt my playing as a late starter, I understand the challenges of playing the instrument firsthand, and I guide students with practical, personalized methods to achieve expressive, comfortable playing. I approach technique as a tool for music-making and artistic expression. We can use it to simplify complex problems and build strong technical and artistic foundations. Everyone has their own individual challenges when it comes to playing. Rather than imposing my own ways, I look for what works for each student, what can make them comfortable and able to play. I'd love to help you through your violin/viola journey!
