Malachi Provenzano

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Malachi started studying the violin at four years of age. He formerly was a student of Sharan Leventhal at the Boston Conservatory of Music, where he finished his Bachelors in Violin Performance. He has also studied at Boston University for his Masters in Violin Performance with professor Bayla Keyes. Malachi is driven and curious to explore all genres and styles of music. Aside from the more traditional classical training that has been his focus, he spends a great deal of time playing and listening to all types of folk music and jazz. Having spent many summers at Marc O’Connor’s fiddle camps Malachi has a deep love for traditional Irish and bluegrass music and appreciates the creative innovations currently being made in these styles. Malachi loves to perform, and plays professional gigs all over the New England and tri state area. He was also strongly impacted by the many teachers he studied with, and it is his dream to be that positive influence for his own students and others; spreading joy through the love of music!

There is so much one can say about why you or your loved ones should sign up for lessons, but I'll try to relate this to my experience. Becoming a better musician is only one of the benefits I have received from my musical education. As a young child with ADHD, I found it very difficult to focus on things I didn't want to do, and believe it or not, practicing was one of them! Taking music seriously is actually an education in how to be a functioning person, one who is able to tackle whatever difficulties life may present. Playing the violin teaches me every day that good things do not come easily, and that the best things in life are earned. Taking it seriously has helped me become a better writer, a better friend and family member, but its also helped me with something as simple as cleaning my room! These things might seem disconnected at a glance, but music education truly has the power to give us both the curiosity and discipline that a life well lived requires.
