I meet students where they are and believe all music is good music if it brings you joy. Teaching since 1995, I work with ages 4 to seniors, many of them neurodivergent. My lessons are structured and predictable: I break skills into small steps, give clear instructions, and use multisensory and by-ear approaches. Fun and fundamentals go hand in hand, so students play styles they love while building technique, reading, and theory. Each lesson, in person or online, ends with a clear practice plan.
I start by learning how each student learns: their goals, interests, attention span, and whether they respond best to seeing, hearing, or doing. For neurodivergent students, I keep routines predictable, break tasks into small steps, use visual cues and movement breaks, and teach by ear when reading is a barrier. I adjust pacing in the moment, choose repertoire that matches each student’s interests, and change course quickly when something isn’t working. Every student gets lessons built for them.
I believe music changes lives for the better and everyone deserves access to this life changing art form. Music develops our social and reasoning skills, teaches discipline and pushes us to achieve. Music enhances our fine motor skills, aural perception and analytical abilities. Above all, music is JOY. My ultimate goal for all of my students is that they learn to love music for their whole lives.
