I’m Sam Gleason, a New York-based musician, songwriter, and audio engineer. I graduated from The College of Saint Rose with a degree in Music Industry, and since then I’ve built a career that blends performance, storytelling, and music production. Music has always been a huge part of my life. I write and perform original songs, with many of my tracks exploring personal and activist-driven themes. I also work as a vocalist, guitarist, pianist, producer, and live sound engineer, which gives me a well-rounded perspective both on stage and behind the scenes. My teaching style is adaptable to each student's needs and learning style. Every student learns differently, so I tailor lessons to what works best for them. While I maintain a relaxed and supportive environment, I emphasize consistency, practice, and strong fundamentals. Lessons often begin with foundational exercises to build solid technique before progressing to more advanced concepts and skills.
I believe effective teaching starts with recognizing that every student learns differently. When working with a new student, I pay attention to their goals, challenges, and how they respond to instruction. I then adapt my approach to keep them engaged and progressing. Some students thrive with interactive activities and short-term goals, while others benefit from clear, accessible explanations of the music theory behind what they're learning.
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I've been singing for as long as I can remember, and by the time I was 11 years old, I had begun playing and writing songs. Around this time I also started taking classical vocal lessons, which has given me a strong foundation in vocal technique, musicianship, and music theory. I've performed both as a solo act and with various music groups throughout the east coast, worked as a recording and live sound engineer, produced music for other artists, and composed the score for an award-winning independent film. But while I enjoy all aspects of music, teaching has become one of the most rewarding parts of my career. I know every student is unique in how they learn, and so I take the time to understand each student's goals, interests, and learning style so I can tailor lessons to their needs. Whether a student wants to learn their favorite songs, improve their technique, understand music theory, develop their voice, or write their own music, I strive to make lessons both engaging and effective. My goal is to create a positive, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to challenge themselves, celebrate their progress, and enjoy the process of learning. I want every student to leave lessons feeling more confident, more capable, and excited to continue their musical journey.
