I want to focus on making music fun for younger/beginner students, and challenging for those more advanced students. Having long term goals, but clearly defined short term steps to work towards them helps students stay engaged and motivated since they can actually see the progress and why we do each thing we do. Everything is intentional, and everything is fun.
Music should be fun, and the students goals should be prioritized and play into their growth as a musician. If a student it’s struggling or lacks motivation in an essential area of learning (a common example being how much kids hate rudiments), then you have to make it fun for them, or motivate with rewards, never punishments.
