Tamia Dawkins

Tamia Dawkins is a Florida-certified music educator, Step-Up EMA Provider, (K–12) and multi-instrumentalist with over 10 years of teaching experience. She has worked with neurotypical and neurodiverse learners ranging in age from 4 to their mid-70s and has experience teaching private lessons, group classes, orchestra, band, voice, and guitar. She has a particular passion for music theory, composition, and helping students discover meaningful connections between music and other areas of learning. An active performer throughout Central Florida, Tamia has performed with local orchestras, wind bands, and choirs and currently works as a freelance musician for churches, educational programs, and special events. She is an accomplished vocalist, clarinetist, pianist/accompanist, and double bassist. Tamia is committed to creating supportive, engaging, and individualized learning experiences for all students, including those with learning disabilities and neurodiverse learners such as students with ASD and ADD/ADHD. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes confidence, creativity, independence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

I believe music is far more than learning an instrument—it is a way of understanding the world. Music naturally connects with mathematics through patterns and structure, language through communication and expression, history and culture through the stories of people and civilizations, and science through acoustics, physics, and the way our minds perceive sound. These connections help students recognize that music is not an isolated subject, but a rich discipline woven throughout everyday life. I believe that music is a gift from God and a remarkable tool for expressing the beauty of His creation, the richness of the human experience, and the fruit of the Spirit at work within His children. My end goal is to help students develop not only technical skill, but also curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Whether a student is learning for personal enrichment, academic growth, performance, or simply the joy of making music, I hope they leave each lesson with greater confidence, deeper understanding, and a lasting love for learning and the arts.
