About Me
I recently completed my doctorate from the Eastman School of Music and have been teaching privately for 15 years. I have a wide variety of interests and love to encourage my students to explore new skills. Every student is different, and I can accommodate virtually all ages, skill levels, and goals. Whether you are interested in classical, jazz or lead trumpet, piano, arranging, theory topics, or history, I can help. I can't wait to meet you!
How I Teach
My approach to teaching is centered on empathy, versatility, and lifelong learning. Students have diverse needs and learning styles, and I begin by meeting them where they are, working to understand how they experience the instrument. The motion of playing an instrument usually requires students to learn kinesthetically, and students often approach this learning from another type first, such as auditory or visual. As I teach, I am just as concerned with how the student is learning as with what they are learning. My teaching synthesizes parts of the great trumpet and jazz pedagogies with the needs and strengths of each student. I believe in well-rounded training and am a very encouraging teacher!
