About Me

Hi, I’m Kayla, and I’m a voice teacher who genuinely loves helping students grow in confidence, creativity, and skill. I have a degree in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music, where I spent years studying technique, performance, and musicianship at a high level. Alongside my performing background, I have worked extensively with students in both educational and arts settings, including my work with the Art Song Preservation Society, where I support projects that bring music to life in meaningful and engaging ways. I work with singers of all ages and levels, from young beginners to more experienced students preparing for auditions or performances. I also welcome students who are just curious about singing and want a supportive place to explore. I am especially comfortable working with children and teens, and I focus on creating lessons that feel encouraging, structured, and fun rather than intimidating. Additionally, if you are looking for Alexander Technique lessons, I am happy to work with you no matter what instrument you play! Please note I am still training but the methods of AT influence my teaching. While my training is rooted in classical voice, I enjoy teaching all styles of music. Whether a student wants to sing musical theater, pop, classical, or something else entirely, I meet them where they are and help them build healthy technique that works across genres. I also incorporate principles of the Alexander Technique into my teaching. This approach helps students develop better posture, reduce tension, and feel more comfortable in their bodies while singing. It can make a big difference in both vocal quality and overall confidence, especially for students who feel nervous or physically tight when they perform. My goal is to make every student feel heard, capable, and excited to learn. I believe that singing should feel good, both physically and emotionally, and I work closely with each student to create an environment where they can take risks, improve steadily, and enjoy the process.

How I Teach

My teaching is centered on making students feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. I believe that people do their best work when they feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow, so I focus on creating a positive and encouraging environment in every lesson. For younger students, I keep lessons engaging and interactive, using simple, clear language and activities that build skills while keeping things fun. I understand that every child learns differently, so I adjust my approach to match their personality, attention span, and interests. Building confidence is just as important to me as building technique. For teens and adult students, I take a collaborative approach. I want students to feel like they have a voice in what they are learning, whether that means choosing repertoire they love or working toward specific goals like auditions, performances, or improving technique. I balance structure with flexibility so lessons feel productive but never rigid. Across all ages and levels, I focus on building a strong, healthy vocal foundation. My classical training informs how I teach breathing, tone, and vocal support, but I apply these principles in a way that works for any style of music. Students learn skills that help them sing freely and sustainably, not just for one song but for the long term. I also incorporate elements of the Alexander Technique into my teaching. This helps students become more aware of how they use their bodies while singing, reduce unnecessary tension, and develop better posture and coordination. Many students find this especially helpful for nerves, performance anxiety, and overall ease while singing. Above all, I want students to leave lessons feeling more confident than when they walked in. Progress looks different for everyone, and I take pride in meeting each student where they are and helping them move forward in a way that feels natural and rewarding.

Why I love what I do!

Music has always been a huge part of my life, and it is something I truly love sharing with others. Singing is such a personal and expressive experience, and I find it incredibly rewarding to help students discover their own voice and feel proud of what they can do. There is nothing better than watching a student go from feeling unsure to singing with confidence and joy. I especially love working with kids because they bring so much curiosity and creativity into the room. They are open, imaginative, and willing to try new things, which makes teaching them both fun and meaningful. I enjoy helping young students build not only musical skills but also confidence, focus, and a sense of accomplishment that carries into other areas of their lives. The Alexander Technique is something I care deeply about because it helps students feel more comfortable in their own bodies. So many singers, even at a young age, hold tension without realizing it. When students learn how to release that tension and move more freely, their sound improves and they feel more at ease. It can also help with nerves, posture, and overall confidence, both in music and beyond. For me, teaching is about more than just singing the right notes. It is about helping students feel capable, expressive, and supported. Being part of that process is something I find incredibly meaningful, and it is why I love what I do.
