Violin Teacher
My name is Lara, I’m 26 years old and originally from Melbourne, Australia, though I’m currently based in New York City. I have eight years of experience teaching violin and viola to students ranging from pre-schoolers to high schoolers, both in person and online. I recently graduated with a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, and I currently enjoy a balance of freelance performing and teaching. Feel free to message me for more details, testimonials, or if you have any questions! :)
Inspiring confidence and growth in young musicians, in music and in life, is at the heart of my teaching. I tailor each lesson to the student's learning style, using clear, engaging, and often playful approaches to make musical concepts make sense in an age-appropriate manner. Having been trained in the Suzuki method as a child, I now draw from Suzuki as well as other established and emerging teaching approaches. I’m also adept at guiding students through formal examination systems, having personally gone through the AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) pathway. This allows me to support students confidently with exam preparation while keeping musical curiosity and enjoyment front and centre. I’m committed to continually refining my methods to support the unique developmental journey of each student. I have taught many different students over the years and especially love working with kids of all personalities. My instruction goes beyond instrumental technique to include music theory, ear training, and note reading, so you can expect a well-rounded and engaging mix of activities in each lesson. I love collaborating with students and meeting them where they are—if you have specific needs or goals, I will do my best to make them possible!
